A note of correction and apology

Because of a reporting error, the address of a methamphetamine bust in downtown Grass Valley late Tuesday was misstated on the front page of Thursday’s The Union. The arrest of five suspects on various drug charges took place at 234 Colfax Ave., authorities said Thursday.

The Union uses several fact-checking techniques to ensure the accuracy of our reporting. Aside from three layers of editing and proofing, reporters also personally verify each fact in an article. However, these safeguards proved ineffective in catching Thursday’s error, and editors are reviewing how our policies can be further improved.

The Union apologizes to those affected by the misstated address and to the many readers who place their trust in us each day.
