Thirty students from Park Avenue Alternative Education Site who exhibited good attendance and behavior in school attended a Giants versus Dodgers game in San Francisco Sept. 24 with Principal Marty Mathiesen.

“It was a great day and a great game,” said Mathiesen. “We went down and tailgated, had a big barbecue in the parking lot and kids got baseballs from the pros.”

Students also visited Cal Expo in Sacramento Sept. 25 for a statewide job fair, to expose students to potential jobs and career paths.

“I’m trying to get some real project-based curriculum matched up with jobs and apprenticeship and career/technical education,” Mathiesen said. “It’s just exposing them to the potential that’s out there and the capacity out there for them to work and find things they are interested in.”
