70th Anniversary: Robbie and Raymonde Gemignani

Robbie and Raymonde Gemignani, pictured, will celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary not once but twice – the first time on Sept. 8 and the second time three weeks later on Sept. 29.

They were originally scheduled to be married Sept. 8 but the justice of the peace was not available. An aunt told them that postponing a wedding was bad luck, so they eloped to Carson City. They were again married on Sept. 29 at the bride’s home in Grass Valley.

It was music that brought them together in the late ’30s. They both have played the accordion from an early age.

In the early years of marriage, Robbie and his brother-in-law owned a moving business known then as Reliable Transfer and Storage. Robbie later retired from Miller Meat Packing.

Raymonde began teaching music, mainly accordion, and had 150 students in her classes. She has taught music for 55 years.

The Gemignani’s children are: Bob (Judy) Gemignani, Yvette (Jerry) Dunn and John Gemignani, all of Nevada City. Their grandchildren are Rob (Teresa) Gemignani, Nick Gemignani, Alisa (Thor) Larsen and Taylor Gemignani. Their great-grandchildren are Addison, Jory, Skyler, Tessa, Elle and Evan.
