65 businesses on hand for job fair on Wednesday

Anybody looking for work or a better job could check out the Nevada County Job Fair this Wednesday with more than 65 businesses anticipated at the event.

The event, set for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Nevada County Fairgrounds is free and comes at a time when the local economy is hurt by the flagging real estate market.

Other segments of the economy including construction and furniture businesses also have seen their work and sales respectively slow.

Business leaders are seeking a more diverse area job market to weather the storm.

The recent addition of 2Wire to Nevada City, a maker of DSL modems for companies such as AT&T, is one such business.

Businesses including Axsys, Intrix, the California Department of Transportation, Cooler Zone and Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital are scheduled to be available Wednesday to talk about openings in high-tech positions.

Workforce Connection is slated to offer free resume writing help and other job seeker resources.

A drawing for an iPod and $500 worth of business software also is anticipated.
