5 Questions with Chelsey Love

In her junior year at Nevada Union High School, Chelsey Love is already a three-year varsity letterwinner with the Lady Miner golf team. Love has been one of NU’s top golfers ever since she stepped up to the tee box as a freshman.

This year, Love has helped lead the Lady Miners to a 9-1 record and first place in the Sierra Foothill League standings. As the team prepared for Monday’s second SFL championship tournament of the season, Love took five questions from Sports Editor Brian Hamilton.

Q. What has it been like to be a part of, perhaps, the best season in the history of Lady MIner golf?

A. “It’s really great. I’ve been golfing forever, so it’s really great to have a team that can do this. Golf is an underestimated sport. There’s not a lot of talk about golf, so when the team does this well, it’s great to be part of.”

Q. You say you’ve been golfing “forever.” When did you get started in the game?

A. “When I was five. My dad got me into golf, so that’s how it came about.”

Q. What’s been the driving force behind the team’s success?

A. “We’re all very motivated and we all love golf. We all want to win and we’re all focused.”

Q. You’ve still got two years of high school left, but do you have plans for after graduation?

A. “I definitely want to get a scholarship for golf. It would be great to go to college and play golf. I plan to major in criminology. I think that’s pretty interesting.”

Q. What are your expectations for this team the rest of the way?

A. “It’s definitely the league title. We’re all very excited about that. It hasn’t been done (at Nevada Union) since 1995, I think. We want to make history. And next year, we all come back as seniors.”
