49er Rotary names Duck Race beneficiaries

Fifteen local school, youth and community groups have been selected as beneficiaries of the 23rd Annual Gold Country Duck Race, which will be held on Sept. 14, on Deer Creek in Nevada City.

The sponsoring 49er Breakfast Rotary Club of Nevada City raises several thousand dollars each year and distributes much of the money to local organizations. Over the years, the club has raised more than $500,000 for local and international service projects.

This year’s beneficiaries are Deer Creek School, Pleasant Valley School, Union Hill School, Clear Creek School, Seven Hills School, Chicago Park School, Forest Charter School, Nevada Union High School band, tennis, track and cheerleading teams, Nevada Union Junior Miners, Rotaract (youth Rotary), Boy Scouts and Anew Day.

The Duck Race caps a full weekend of events as Nevada City hosts its annual Constitution Day Parade and Celebration. The Sunday afternoon races begin at 1:30 p.m., with the final $5,000 grand prize competition at 5:30 p.m.

To adopt a $5 racing duck, see a 49er Rotarian or order tickets online at http://www.49erDuckRace.com.
