4 charges dropped in plea deal

John Crawford, who was facing five charges of committing lewd or lascivious acts on a victim under the age of 14, pleaded “no contest” recently to one of the counts.

The other four counts will be dismissed at his sentencing, scheduled for May 31.

He is accused of molesting a 12-year-old girl during several weeks in June and July 2003.

Crawford, 48, turned himself in to authorities last December. According to Grass Valley police, he came forward after he had had an argument with the victim. The victim spoke to Crawford’s wife, who confronted him and demanded that he speak to police. After he was interviewed, officers took him into custody.
