274-NURSE … it’s gone!

Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital has ceased providing this 24/7 ‘dial a nurse’ service. I don’t recall seeing a notice of same but, being a person who benefited greatly from its presence, I’d sure like to know why. I’m sure it’s a money thing (everything is).

In case you’re not familiar with it, a person with a medical issue could call 274-NURSE and speak with a live RN who would field the question. Depending on the issue at hand, they would give appropriate medical advice or seek such advice from another medical professional and provide suggestions as to best course of action, i.e., get to emergency right away, call your doctor in the morning, take some Benadryl, apply ice and elevate, whatever.

Sad to see it gone and wonder what it would take to get it back.
