Local GOP opens headquarters

More than 90 people attended the grand opening of the local headquarters for the John McCain presidential campaign and the Nevada County Republican Central Committee this week.

The headquarters is located at 2038 Nevada City Highway in the Fowler Center.

The office will be used up to election day, with volunteers making telephone calls and answering questions from the public, local McCain campaign manager Kim Pruett said.

Michael Francis O’Connor, who was shot down and captured in Vietnam in 1968 and spent five years in POW camps, described the experiences, core values and honor that McCain – also a prisoner of war – would bring to the Oval Office.

Other guests included Sue Horne, regional chairwoman of Women for McCain; county supervisor District 2 candidates Ed Scofield and Alan Kilborn; and John Vodonick and Aaron Klein, candidates for the Sierra College Board of Trustees, Area 7.
