Lloyd Smith

A memorial service for Lt. Col. Lloyd W. Smith of Lake Wildwood will be at 11 a.m. today at the Foothill Chapel of Chapel of the Angels in Grass Valley.

Mr. Smith died Monday, Aug. 5. He was 83.

He was born Sept. 6, 1918, in Lake City, Iowa, and served in the U.S. Air Force, retiring as a lieutenant colonel. He was one of the last surviving veterans of both Pearl Harbor and D-Day. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Purple Heart. He was a member of the American Legion.



Mr. Smith is survived by his wife of 59 years, Martha Smith of Lake Wildwood; son, Ken Smith of San Diego; daughters Betty Visser and her husband of Sebastopol and Judy Culp and her husband of Overland Park, Kan.; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Arrangements are under the direction of Chapel of the Angels.
