Lives Lived: Wyatt Harris

Wyatt A. Harris died Sept. 25 in Sacramento following a brief battle with cancer. He was 84.

A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9 at Seely Park in Sacramento.

He was born January 7, 1925 in Porterville to Wyatt A. Harris Sr. and Ada R. (Betts) Harris.

He was an avid golfer who moved to Lake Wildwood in 1977, where he was active in the men’s golf club and could often be seen on the golf course.

He was a devoted family man whose other activities included cycling, camping, water skiing, boy scouts, building and flying model airplanes, gardening, flying, auto and motorcycle racing, and restoring his 1940 Ford coupe.

Wyatt worked for Cal Trans, and retired in 1982 after a 30 year career. He was usually a very quiet man but had a wit that would surprise you when you least expected it.

Various infirmities slowed his activities later in life, but he remained devoted to family and friends. He will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Vivian Harris; sons Raymond and Donald Harris; half- sister Luanne Rae Harris Lee; brother, Edwin Harris and stepsons Michael and Larry Morris.
