Lives Lived: Russell Shuman

Russell J. Shuman died Oct. 4 in Grass Valley. He was 85.

A celebration of life is set for 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct 24 at Ponderosa Pines Clubhouse.

He was born Dec. 7, 1923 in Sacramento.

He first lived with his grandmother in Grass Valley from 1934 to 1936. She ran the Kidder Mansion and boarded miners that worked at the Empire Mine.

He served in the U.S. Navy, as CM2, from 1947 to 1955.

He worked as a salesman for Keuffler & Esser for 35 years.

He moved back to Grass Valley in 1991. He was a resident owner of Ponderosa Pines Mobile Home Park. He was active on the board of directors and an avid poker and pinochle player.

He was a member of the Masons and Shriners. His hobby was golf.

He is survived by his wife, Betty L. Shuman of Grass Valley; brother, Mel Shuman of Bridgeport; sister, Sharon Madhvani of Morgan Hill and grandson, Seth.

Memorial Contributions may be sent to the Shriners.

Arrangements are under the direction of Chapel of the Angels Mortuary and Crematory in Grass Valley.
