Lives Lived: Roy Finnegan

Roy John Finnegan died Thursday, Feb. 18, at Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital, surrounded by his large and loving family and friends.

He was 77.

A service, wake and celebration of life will be at 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 27, at the Nevada City Veteran’s Memorial Hall on North Pine Street.



Mr. Finnegan was born Dec. 20, 1932, in Downey, to John and Martha Finnegan.

He married JoAnne Finnegan on Feb. 11, 1955, in Las Vegas.




He was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and was a member of the American Legion and Nevada City First Baptist Church.

Mr. Finnegan lived a full life filled with love, family and laughter. He always enjoyed large family gatherings where he could share time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mr. Finnegan and his wife were Christians and raised their children on godly principles. He will be missed by his family, friends and church family.

As sad as his passing is, it is a time of celebration because those who knew him know he is in heaven.

Mr. Finnegan is survived by his son, Robert Finnegan; daughters, Kelly Finnegan-Ogren, Penii Jo Trautwein and Tina Wilson; brother, Kenny Finnegan; 22 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
