Lives Lived: Mathew Mendiola

Mathew “Mat” Joseph Mendiola died March 14 in Grass Valley, Calif. He was 25.

A celebration of life with family and friends will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 20, at the Condon Park disc golf course. Bring your favorite dish or your favorite memory of Mat to share.

He was born Dec. 6, 1984, in Sacramento, Calif. He moved to Grass Valley in April 1988 and attended local schools.

Mat’s greatest virtue was his love and devotion to his family and friends. His smile would light up the room and when he said “hello,” it was genuine and heartfelt. He had a way of making you feel like you were the most important person in the room.

He enjoyed hanging out with friends, fishing, a good barbecue, a round of disc golf and spending time with his beloved “son,” Dozer. Mat also enjoyed putting thoughts on paper in the form of drawings; his artwork was amazing.

Mat leaves behind his parents, Diana and Brian Mesker; brothers, Brian Paul and Justin Mendiola; grandparents, James and Barbara Ford; uncles and aunts, Jim and Sharon Ford and Mike and Kim Ford; and cousins, Troy, Kayla and Aspen Ford.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Meghan Mendiola.

Mat, you will be forever in our hearts and deeply missed. We love you.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks memorial contributions be made to a favorite charity in Mat’s name.
