Lives Lived: Marjorie Smith

Marjorie Marie Smith, of Grass Valley, died Feb. 16, with her family by her side. She was 81.

A graveside service will be at 12:45 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 23, at the Northern California Veterans Cemetery in Igo. The Rev. Ellis Martin will officiate.

She was born Oct. 1, 1928, to Glen and Esther Postle in Detroit.



On Jan. 17, 1948, she married Richard “Dick” Smith.

Mrs. Smith was a loving wife and mother, referring to herself as a “domestic engineer.”




She was a member of the Reseda California-Y’s Menets and she enjoyed doing volunteer work at “The Attic” thrift store. She loved swimming, collecting dolls and sewing; in 1989, she began the “Hello Dolly Club,” a doll club in Redding.

Mrs. Smith is survived by her husband, Richard “Dick” Smith; children, Sandra Turnage, Clifton Smith, Gwen Beck and Stewart Smith; and seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hooper and Weaver Mortuary, Nevada City.
