Lives Lived: Colleen Preston

Colleen S. Preston, a 40 year resident of Nevada County, passed away March 10 in Grass Valley at the age of 83.

Visitation for family and friends will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, March 15 and from 8 to 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 16 at Hooper & Weaver Mortuary in Nevada City. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 16 at Greenwood Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Grass Valley. The Rev. Andy Owens will be officiating.

Mrs. Preston was born on March 20, 1926, in Oakland to Elmer and Geneive (Battenfeld) Wickliffe. She attended high school, and married the love of her life, Leonard D. Preston on Oct. 5, 1942, in Oakland. She owned and operated a custom drapery shop in Nevada City for 10 years. She was a member of F.O.E. (Fraternal of Eagles) for five years. She enjoyed bowling and fishing.



She is survived by her daughters Wynona M. Battenfeld of Browns Valley and Alma D. Britton of Chiloquin, Ore.; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard D. Preston in 1978 and daughter, Linda E. Schmidt in 2006.




Arrangements are under the direction of Hooper & Weaver Mortuary.
