Almost every weekend, a diverse array of musical talents swarm Grass Valley and Nevada City to entertain locals of all ages. This Friday is no exception when Kyle Field, the face of Little Wings, appears at the Magic Theatre.

At first glance, Field brings new meaning to the phrase “looks can be deceiving.” His youthful and carefree image does not lead on to the fact that this musician already has three CDs released with one in the works (expected to be in stores this summer).

Field started working in the music business “way back in the grunge years (a.k.a. the ’90s),” as he described it Saturday, selling T-shirts for his first band.

“We were not very grungy, but I sold a few shirts and thought ‘I can get into this,'” Field said.

That’s exactly what he did. For more than 10 years now, Field has enthusiastically pursued his career as a guitarist and vocalist, touring about two weeks monthly.

“I couldn’t manage a normal day-to-day job existence any longer,” Field said. “It is a constant effort to stay engaged and write more. It feels like work in many ways, but a work that I feel adept at.”

The San Luis Obispo resident is no stranger to Nevada County.

“I am practically a fixture at ye olde Mine Shaft at least one or two nights per summer,” Field joked. “I love Nevada City very much!”
