Lipson honored as county’s Junior Miss

Julie Lipson of Nevada City was named Nevada County’s Junior Miss in April. She received a $500 scholarship and $450 in sponsorship.

She advanced to the California Junior Miss Program in Rohnert Park in August, where she won the talent portion of the competition. She was awarded a $300 scholarship. She performed Chopin’s “Fantasie Impromptu in C Sharp Minor” on the piano.

She is an honor student with a 4.1 grade-point average at Nevada Union High School, a leader in the Youth Opposing Use of Tobacco for Health Coalition, and a four-time winner of the Music in the Mountains Young Musicians Competition.

She also won the Auburn Symphony Young Musician Competition and has appeared in several Foothill Theatre and Performing Arts Guild productions. She is the youth commissioner on the Grass Valley Parks and Recreation Commission.
