Light dimming at Weaver Auto and Truck up for discussion

Adding light shielding devices and dimming parking lot lights are two key recommendations city planners suggest for what some consider excessive lighting at Weaver Auto and Truck.

Tuesday, the Grass Valley Planning Commission is set to discuss the lighting recommendations for the dealership’s new location. If commissioners agree, the recommendations could be sent to Weaver Auto and Truck in a letter.

Concerns about the new dealership at 400 Idaho-Maryland Road arose earlier this year. At that time, former Councilman Steve Enos said the lights “blank out the stars and lights up the hillside.”

Recommendations to dim the dealership’s lights include:

– Reduce the lighting level visible from Idaho-Maryland Road possibly by changing the bulb standard or reducing the number of lights on any pole.

– Turning all parking lot lights to their lowest needed level for security measures after business hours.

The planning commission meets at 7 p.m. at Grass Valley City Hall, 125 East Main St.
