Let’s help ourselves first

Haiti, Haiti, Haiti. Let’s all send our money and save Haiti so we can make these rich superstars feel like they do make a difference.

All the while, there are people with college degrees and families living under overpasses all around this country. So while it might help you sleep well to help these unfortunate Haitians, it does nothing for our own countrymen, our own neighbors, our own people.

Oprah sends millions overseas, yet drives by many of our own homeless on her way to her studio every day. When will we start taking care of our own first? When will we stop trying to save the rest of the world on my tax dollars? It is not the job of our government to abandon its citizens who worked and paid taxes over the needs over the others.

Yes, it was a terrible 7.0-magnitude disaster that happened over a couple of minutes and it is very unfortunate and sad, indeed. But we had our own 7.0 hit our economy, and it took months, years, and we are still feeling the aftershocks. When will we open our eyes and see the need to spend and give right here, where we live? Let us save our own neighbors first, because they will be the ones to help us when we need it most.
