Let voters decide

Yesterday (Oct. 2), The Union printed another scathing attack on Bruce Conklin’s integrity. My wife and I have heard Mr. Conklin speak in the public forum, and when we lived in Grass Valley, we hosted a coffee for him in our home. At that time, we interviewed him on a more personal level and were impressed with his grasp of environmental issues, his interest in education, and his concerns for community needs including mental health care and affordable housing.

During that supervisorial race, there was a great deal of invective hurled his way, but we thought he behaved with poise and control throughout.

Recent editorials in The Union have been hostile and in no way describe the characteristics of the man we know. My impression is that you never miss an opportunity to attack him in a vicious, biased manner. It is not to your credit to be so mean-spirited and attribute such intentionality to a candidate for public office who has served the county long and well in numerous capacities.

The Union has stated its views. Let the voters decide instead of using your clout in a highly biased manner. This only strips you of decency and credibility.
