Leonard Sossamon

Funeral services for Leonard Worthy Sossamon of Nevada City will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Nevada City chapel of Hooper and Weaver Mortuary. Burial will be at Forest View Cemetery at Nevada City.

Mr. Sossamon died Thursday, Feb. 14, in Grass Valley. He was 92.



He was born Aug. 16, 1909, in Arkadelphia, Ark., to Millard and Josie (Davis) Sossamon. He married Gertie Mae Sossamon.




He worked more than 40 years for Wicks Lumber Corp. as a mill foreman. He was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 13 and York Rite in Nevada City. His hobby was gardening.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in law, Larry and Carol Sossamon of Fresno; daughter and son-in-law Martha and Jim Chlibeck of Sydney, Australia; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Gertie Mae Sossamon, in 1980; and daughter Lillie Mae Branson, in 2001.

Hooper and Weaver Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
