Nevada County resident Paul Haas, who taught at Margaret Scotten School in Grass Valley from 1991 to 1996, has since been working at the Butte County Office of Education.

There, Haas directs the California Technology Assistance Program. He’s in charge of Region 2, which covers the nine northeastern counties of California (Nevada County is in Region 3, but also receives CTAP services).

On June 19, Haas started a nine-day bicycle ride to all nine county offices ” covering about 775 miles and crossing Sierra foothills, mountains, high desert and the Central Valley. He averaged about 100 miles per day.

“I’m doing this for both professional and personal reasons,” Haas wrote in his blog of the ride ” which chronicles his adventures day-by-day at ctapregion2.blogspot.com.

Those reasons, he wrote, included creating a virtual field trip of the region’s nine counties, raising awareness of the services and resources CTAP offers to schools, promote the CTAP Summer Technology Leadership Conference for teachers, and “building partnerships and sponsorships with companies and organizations that provide quality digital resources that support teaching and learning.”
