Bear River High School inaugurated a new theater on Nov. 1. The new 9,600-square-foot facility, called the Bruin Community Performing Arts Theater, has 412 seats, a large stage and a green room. The theater has state-of-the-art sound system and lighting, and the sound booth can function as a recording studio.
The opening ceremony included performances by the Bear River High School chorale and individual students.
A number of performances already have been scheduled for the new facility. These include the Nevada County Choral Festival on Tuesday, the CSUS Jazz Festival on Dec. 2, and the Band Winter Concert on Dec. 14.
Sierra College is celebrating its 70th anniversary Wednesday at the Dietrich Theater on Rocklin campus.
The event, from 2:45 to 5 p.m., is expected to draw local leaders, community members, students, current and Emeritus Sierra College Trustees, and present and former members of the faculty.
The celebration is being presented by Leo Chavez, superintendent and president of Sierra College; Gerald C. Angove, superintendent and president Emeritus; and Bart O’ Brien, superintendent of the Placer Union High School District.
As part of the celebration, there will be live music, a display of historic documents, and a public premier of “A road that never ends: A history of Sierra College.’

On Friday, Sierra College will present a speech on “The Way to Sustainability” by Environmental Literacy Professor James Pushnik.
Pushnik is a Rawlins Endowed Professor of Environmental Literacy at California State University in Chico.
The lecture will be held in Sewell Hall, Room S -111, starting 7:30 p.m. at the Sierra College Rocklin Campus, 5000 Rocklin Rd. in Rocklin. Admission is $5 for the general public and $2 for students. Museum members can attend for free.
There is a $1 daily parking fee on campus. Parking permits are available at machines located in the parking lot.
