Last Day to Register to Vote and Other Reminders

Today (Monday) is the last day to register to vote in the Nov. 7 election.

Voters using the traditional paper ballot should mark their selections in blue or black ink, so their choices can be easily scanned by the Diebold optical scanners. The optical scanners can read every color except red, according to Nevada County Clerk-Recorder Kathleen Smith.

The new Diebold touchscreen voting machines (AccuVote TSx) will print a paper receipt for voters where they can verify their selections, but the paper trail will be kept inside the machine. Voters who use the machines will not be able to take the receipts with them, and must request to use the touchscreen machines.
