Last chance to see monks this weekend

Two remaining public events this weekend feature the six Tibetan monks visiting Nevada County from the Gaden Lhopa Khangtsen Monastery in Southern India.

The monks will then conclude their annual two-week visit to Nevada County this week which is to share cultural arts and to raise funds for their monastery.

The second of two Healing Empowerment sessions, in which negative energy is removed from individuals, will be 7 p.m. Friday at St. Joseph’s Cultural Center. The Sand Mandala Dissolution Ceremony at the cultural center will be at 7 p.m. Saturday.

The three-dimensional Amityas Buddha sand mandala can also be viewed in the center’s hall, beginning at 10 a.m. today through Saturday.

Sierra Friends of Tibet sponsors the monks’ local visit.

A suggested donation for both events is from $10 to $15. No one will be turned away, however, due to lack of funds. All donations go directly to the monks for their monastery.

St. Joseph’s Cultural Center is at 410 S. Church St., Grass Valley. Call 265-7737 or 272-4725 or check on the Web for more information about the monks’ visit.
