Lake of the Pines woman dies in one-car crash

A 39-year-old Lake of the Pines woman was killed late Friday night after she crashed and rolled a Jeep Cherokee she was driving within the gated community.

Julia Marguerite Risdal was driving her 1996 Jeep north on Torrey Pines Drive, north of Oro Valley, at 11:57 p.m. Friday.

Risdal was speeding, California Highway Patrol Officer George Kirbyson said Monday, and missed a right-hand curve in the road. The sport utility vehicle went off the road and overturned into a ditch, he said.

Risdal was by herself and was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, and was thrown from the vehicle. She was pronounced dead at the scene, Kirbyson said, from blunt force trauma to the head, chest and left leg.

The highway patrol is investigating the crash for the use of alcohol.
