Kilroys accepting junk cars

Junk cars will get a second life and Nevada County will get a spring facelift for the next three week, when free Kilroy’s Towing Service accepts junked cars.

“It’s time to clean up the county again,” said co-owner Kim Kilroy.

Kilroy’s Towing Service will accept cars for free from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Fridays, starting Monday through March 30. The tow yard is at 12077 Highway 49. Owners must have their vehicle’s title or a “junk slip” from the DMV, said Kilroy.

There will be a fee for out-of-state vehicles. For those that want to clean up their property, pick-up fees range from $60 to $100.

Vehicles will be smashed with a car crusher, then hauled to Utah to be recycled. During last spring’s junk car collection, nearly 200 cars were dropped off in a one-week period, Kilroy said.
