Kenneth Hoey

A memorial Mass for Kenneth J. Hoey of Grass Valley will be conducted Friday at 1:30 p.m. at St. Canice Catholic Church, 317 Washington St. in Nevada City. Father Godwin will officiate the services. Private inurnment will take place at the Greenwood Memorial Garden Cemetery in Grass Valley.

Mr. Hoey died Monday, Feb. 9, at Golden Empire Convalescent Hospital. He was 82.

He was born Feb. 25, 1921, in New York City, N.Y. He served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945, during World War II. He married Ruth Margorie Apple Sept. 28, 1946, in Astoria, Long Island. He was an aircraft mechanic at TWA for 38 years. He moved to California in 1962 and to Grass Valley in 1983. He was a member of the Grass Valley Host Lyons, serving as secretary. He enjoyed reading to children at Hennessy School and volunteering for Hospice of the Foothills.

He is survived by his daughters Muriel Carrieri of Half Moon Bay and Patrice Whitehead of Folsom; granddaughters Kristin Barros of Belmont and Gina Srabian of Woodland Hills; and great-granddaughters Angelina and Gioranni Barros, both of Belmont. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Hoey, on Sept. 20, 1993.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hooper and Weaver Mortuary.
