Katherine Waterman

Visitation for family and friends of Katherine J. Waterman of Grass Valley will be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Nevada City chapel of Hooper and Weaver Mortuary. A rosary will be recited there at 7 p.m. Thursday.



Services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Grass Valley. Burial will follow at Chico Cemetery.




Mrs. Waterman died Thursday, Feb. 14, in Grass Valley. She was 86.

She was born June 11, 1915, in Weed to Albert and Clara Rader. She married Jewell Waterman on Jan. 27, 1934, in Weed. She was a homemaker. She was a lifelong member of the Young Ladies Institute. She enjoyed playing bingo and spending time with her grandchildren, great- and great-great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Matheson of Grass Valley; daughter-in-law, Marylyn Waterman of Rancho Santa Margarita; sisters Agnes Stover of Sacramento, Helen Moore and Lucille Linville, both of Weed, and Genevieve Wertz of Redding; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1977; and son, Richard Waterman, in 2001.

Memorial contributions can be made to Sierra Services for the Blind or St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hooper and Weaver Mortuary.
