Katherine Stuart

Katherine Stuart of Camptonville died Monday, Jan. 7, in Fremont. She was 90.

A memorial service will be held at North San Juan Methodist Church at 1 p.m. Saturday, followed by graveside services at the Camptonville Cemetery at 2:45 p.m. conducted by Evangeline Chapter No. 9, Order of the Eastern Star.



Mrs. Stuart was born in Oakland on Oct. 21, 1911, to Julius and Grace Pauly. She was a graduate of Marysville High School and of California School of Arts and Crafts in Oakland.




A lifelong resident of Camptonville and North San Juan, Mrs. Stuart worked as postmaster in Camptonville.

She, her husband and stepson played music for dances in several of the local towns. Mrs. Stuart was organist for many years at the Order of the Eastern Star. She was a member of the White Shrine, Eastern Star, Order of the Amaranth and the Pocohantas.

Mrs. Stuart is survived by her son, Allan Johnson of Sunnyvale; stepson, Gene Stuart of North San Juan; stepdaughter, Isabel Hottle of Nevada City; brother, Leland Pauly of Camptonville; and several grandchildren.
