Katherine Rachel West (sponsored obituary)
A memorial celebration for Katherine West will be held on Friday September 3rd, 1:00pm, at Twin Cities Church, 11726 Rough & Ready
Hwy., Grass Valley, California 95945.
Kathy went home to be with the Lord on August 27, 2010 after a yearlong battle with Melanoma. Kathy West, born Katherine Rachel Wampler, was born on July 14, 1969 in San Jose California to Galen and Rachel Wampler. She grew up in the San Jose area attending Valley Christian School, Bret Harte Junior High and Leland High School graduating in 1987. After graduation Kathy spent a year and a half at Bethany Bible College, but decided Bethany wasn’t the school for her and took the next semester off. She attended West Valley Junior College in Los Gatos taking courses in preparation for an Oceanography degree. In 1990 she transferred to Humboldt State University as a junior majoring in Oceanography. During her first semester at Humboldt she met the love of her life, Eric West, through Campus Crusade for Christ. She also discovered that Oceanography wasn’t the major for her and decided to switch to Psychology. She planned on specializing in Marriage, Family, and Child Counseling
She graduated with her Psychology degree in June 1993 and married Eric in July. Her dreams of becoming a MFCC were put on hold when she was unable to obtain acceptance into the Masters program at Humboldt. She was denied acceptance due to a lack of intern experience, yet couldn’t secure
intern jobs without a master’s degree. It was a viscous circle, and she ended up finding a job with the county traffic department while her husband completed his degree. In 1996 Kathy and her husband moved to the Grass Valley area where Eric landed a job with a local Forester. Kathy decided not to pursue her MFCC license, but instead she worked for her father out of the house doing market analysis of test instruments. If you are confused, don’t worry so is everyone else! Kathy & Eric bought their first home in Smartsville where they lived for 10 years until moving to LWW in 2009. After seven unsuccessful years, Kathy gave birth to Reanne in 2003, the first of her three daughters.
In 2006 her second daughter Larah came along. In 2008 her bonus baby girl
Dawnicah was born. About a year after the birth of Reanne, Kathy decided to become a full time mother. Kathy’s daughters meant the world to her; there was nothing she loved more than being a mom and could often be found in a dark closet playing “camping” with flashlights, or tackling some messy yet fun craft or art project. She was a member of Penn Valley Community Church and attended the Women’s bible study at Twin Cities Church. Kathy’s had beautiful blue eyes, and a smile that was contagious!
We celebrate her entering into heaven, but her presence will truly be missed.
Kathy is survived by her husband of 17 years, Eric. Daughters, Reanne,
Larah and Dawnicah, her father Galen Wampler, sisters Kristi Malech and
Hope Delatorre, and her grandmother, Jewel Smith. She was preceded in death by her mother Rachel Wampler.
