Katherine Gibbons

A private burial for Katherine Gibbons of Nevada City will be conducted at the Celio family plot in Pine Grove Cemetery in Nevada City.

Mrs. Gibbons died Saturday, Oct. 26, at home. She was 87.

She was born Aug. 10, 1915, in Sacramento to Katherine M. (Reuf) and Gove Clarke Celio. She moved with her family as a young child to Nevada City, where she attended local schools and graduated from Nevada City High School in 1933.

She attended the University of California at Berkeley before moving to Los Angeles, where she worked in support of the war effort. She met and married Edward Gibbons. Following his death, she moved to San Francisco and worked for medical groups as a medical secretary. She returned in 1965 to live with her mother in Nevada City.

She was past president of the Nevada City Women’s Civic Club and a member of Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a lifelong student of Nevada City history.

She is survived by her nephews Richard Celio and Gove Celio; and niece, Corinne Celio. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and brother, Col. Gove Celio.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hooper and Weaver Mortuary.
