Junk cars get a free lift

Another towing company is offering free services to clean up the county.

Celestial Valley Towing will tow junk cars and buses located within a ten mile radius of Grass Valley for free beginning March 19 and continuing through April 16. Travel trailers and mobile homes will not be included in the deal.

There will be a small fee for towing services to remote areas such as Lake of the Pines, Washington and the North San Juan Ridge said owner Doug Bigley.

The county will offer free junk slips to people who don’t have one from the DMV. Owners will be required to write a statement of facts.

“We pretty much specialize in getting rid of stuff people can’t get rid of,” Bigley said. His company accepts junk cars for free every day if owners bring them in to the company’s Whispering Pine’s warehouse. The company has a $40,000 vehicle abatement contract with the county, Bigley said.

Last year the company crushed and shipped 4,000 cars to Utah where the scrap metal is revamped into rebar and roofing.

Celestial Valley Towing is located at 1050 Whispering Pines Lane and can be reached by phone at 272-3353.
