Julius Mate

Graveside services for Julius Mate of Acampo will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Cherokee Memorial Park, with clergy from St. Anne’s Catholic Church and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Lodi Post No. 68, officiating.

Mr. Mate died Friday, Dec. 13, in a Stockton hospital. He was 80.



He was born on July 26, 1922, in Cleveland, Ohio. He moved to Acampo in 1988. He was a previous resident of Florida, Grass Valley and Livermore. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He worked for the Brush Bryellium Co. in Hayward for 17 years prior to moving, owning and operating the LaBarr Meadows Roller Rink and The Corner Store, both in Grass Valley. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Dolores Mate of Acampo; daughters Darlene West of Livermore and Debbey Henrichs of Lancaster; son, David Mate of San Jose; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.




Arrangements are under the direction of the Gierhart-Wells and Donahue Funeral Home, Inc. of Lodi.
