Joseph Sharp

Private services for Joseph Porter Sharp of Pike will be conducted.

Mr. Sharp died Thursday, Feb. 2. He was 76.

He was born Sept. 13, 1929, in Altamont, N.Y., to Joseph and Clarabelle Sharp. He graduated from high school, and served in the U.S. Navy on the U.S.S. Midway from 1946 to 1951. He married Joan Marie on Dec. 10, 1950, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He worked in civil service for 24 years. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and served as commander. He was also an ambulance driver for the Pike City Fire Department. He enjoyed writing for the ‘Pike Poll’ and the Mountain Messenger.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Joan Marie; daughters and sons-in-law, Deborah and Louis Patterson of Carmichael, and Marian and David Flowers of Grass Valley; daughters Linda Sharp of North San Juan, Joann Cartoscelli of Grass Valley, and Nancy Glover of North San Juan; sister, Eileen Bacon of Sacramento; nephew, Joseph of Sacramento; 10 grandchildren; and 12-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister, Jessie Sharp.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Cancer Society.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hooper & Weaver Mortuary.
