Jones, Martinez tops at Cystic Fibrosis 5K

At the Cystic Fibrosis 5K at Empire Mine, Bjorn Jones tallied the top time overall, finishing the 3.1-mile course in 18 minutes, 16 seconds.

With Jones’ win, he now holds a four-point advantage (80-76) over Larry DeFeyter in the Gold Country Grand Prix (GP) in the 30-39 age group (AG).

The women’s race featured a very tight contest for first as Karina Martinez edged out Kristina Martinez by three seconds with a time of 21:52.



In the men’s race, Devon Cloud came in third overall and won the men’s 15-18 AG with a time of 19:23. Rob Taylor was fourth overall and finished first in the 40-49 AG. Herve Pastre was sixth overall and got the top spot in the 60-65 AG. Philip Desjardins was seventh overall and first in the 50-59 AG. John Rodrigues won the 19-29 AG, Davis Olsen won the 1-10 AG, and Ron Gross won the 70-99 AG.

In the women’s race, Amanda Bratton was the third overall finisher and won the 19-29 AG with a time of 22:02. Michelle Newbon was right behind her with a time of 22:10, good enough for first in the 40-49 AG. Brooke Murphy won the 30-39 AG, Inka Mims took the 50-59 AG, Lexie Madigan was first in the 1-10 AG, Lynne Hurrell was the first to finish in the 70-99 AG, and Eunice Czarnecki won the 60-69 AG.




The Gold Country Grand Prix continues Oct. 27 with the Falling Leaves 5K and 10K. The Falling Leaves 5K and 10K is the second to last race of the series.
