John Wilson

John Burns Wilson of Nevada City died Tuesday, Feb. 4. He was 88.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date.

Mr. Wilson was born on Oct. 14, 1914, in Belleview, Alberta, Canada. He moved to Butte, Mont. at an early age, where he went through school and as a young man worked in the Butte copper mines. He moved to Colfax in 1937, where he met and married Kay on Feb. 26, 1938.



He had been a resident of Nevada County for 60 years. He worked in the Grass Valley gold mines until they closed in 1942. He worked at the Mare Island shipyard for several years, and then went to work for the division of highways in 1948. He worked in various positions for the division of highways and retired in 1975. He was an active member of a number of Nevada County organizations over the years. He was an avid bowler and enjoyed all sports.

He is survived by his wife, Kay; daughter and son-in-law, Jackie and Tom Osborne of Grass Valley; son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Sharon Wilson of Paradise; three grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.




Arrangements are under the direction of Chapel of the Angels Mortuary.
