John Tremayne

Memorial services for John E. Tremayne of Sunnyvale were conducted Tuesday, June 22, at Spangler Mortuary in Mountain View.

Mr. Tremayne died Thursday, June 17, in Sunnyvale. He was 101.

He was born Dec. 19, 1902, in Oakdale to John H. and Susan (Moyal) Tremayne, the youngest of 10 children. He married Ruth on Dec. 24, 1924. He learned to fly in 1927 in Santa Monica. He operated a flying school in Long Beach during 1928 and 1929. In 1941, he had an airline transport pilot’s certificate, as well as an airplane mechanics license.



He flew for Pan American among other airlines from 1927 to 1962, when he had to stop flying commercial planes at the age of 60, the mandatory age for retirement. After retirement, he purchased and managed several apartments in the Mountain View, San Jose and Stockton areas.

He is survived by his wife of 79 years, Ruth Tremayne of Sunnyvale; nieces Evelyn Dalaba of Nevada City and Joanne Akiyoshi; and in-laws Julius Bruhn and James Feigel.
