JOHN THOMPSON

John W. Thompson of Grass Valley died July 15 at Meadow View Manor. He was 99.

Private services will be held at a later date. Cremation will take place.

Mr. Thompson was born Feb. 28, 1909, in Omaha, Neb., to Julie Johnson and Clifford Thompson. He attended school in Omaha, Neb. He served in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific from 1946 to 1948. He married Esther Thompson on Nov. 26, 1959.



Mr. Thompson worked as a special agent for American Express Co. for 21 years. He was a lifetime member of the Mechanics Library. He was an avid reader and enjoyed travel and nature.

Mr. Thompson is survived by his wife of 48 years, Esther Thompson; stepdaughter, Alice Meyer of Nevada City, and niece, Sally Williams of Weaverville.




He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister.

Arrangements are under the direction of Chapel of the Angels Mortuary in Grass Valley.
