John Solvason

No services will be held for John Solvason, of Eugene, Ore. who passed away April 3 in Eugene. He was 86.

Mr. Solvason was born June 9, 1920, to Sigurd and Emma (Johannson) Solvason in International Falls, Minn.

He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and was later a major in the Air Force reserves.



On Aug. 3, 1941, Mr. Solvason married Helen Mae Ingraham in International Falls, Minn., and on March 10, 1984, he married Gloria Frye in Saratoga.

Mr. Solvason received his undergraduate degree from the University of Minnesota and a master’s degree in engineering from MIT. He was an aerospace engineer with Douglas and then was vice president of Lockheed Missile and Space.




Mr. Solvason lived on Scotts Flat Lake from 1985 to 2002. During that time, he served as president of the sewer board and was involved in environmental protection technology.

Mr. Solvason is survived by his wife, Gloria Solvason of Eugene, Ore.; sons, John Solvason of Eugene, Ore. and James Solvason of Dothan, Ala.; daughters, Christine Emma Erickson of Puallup, Wash., Susan McLing of Eugene, Ore. and Judith Martin of Oaxaca, Mexico; stepson, Jim Frye of San Antonio, Texas; stepdaughter; Suzanne Hartl of Visalia; and 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Mae in 1981; and daughter, Carol Hannon in 2001.
