John Sieler, long time resident of Downieville and Grass Valley, died May 28 surrounded by his loving family.

Scripture will be read, the rosary will be recited, and visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m., Wednesday, June 4, at Hooper and Weaver Mortuary in Nevada City. All those who knew and loved John are invited to a mass to celebrate his life at 11 a.m., Thursday, June 5, at St. Patrick’s Church, 235 Chapel Street in Grass Valley.

Mr. Sieler was born on Dec. 10, 1935, in Yankton, S.D.

John’s passions were gold mining, traveling, exploring, and laughing.

He always had to climb to the top of the mountain to see a different view of the world.

He is survived by his loving wife, Beverly Sieler; sister and brother-in-law, Christine and Steve Vellek; daughters Sandy Kister of Iraq, Shelley McIntosh of Nevada City, and Laurie Jo Colvin of Grass Valley; son, Barry Sieler of Washington; sons-in-law Lon McIntosh and Jay Colvin; daughter-in-law, Linda Sue Sieler; grandchildren Lance McIntosh, Harrison McIntosh, Sequoia Colvin, and Kendall Colvin, and nieces Mary Ann Cummins and Nancy Nelson.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hooper and Weaver Mortuary
