John Peterson

A Mass for John E. Peterson of Penn Valley will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Grass Valley. Father Nicholas Phelan and the Knights of Columbus will officiate. Burial will be at St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery in Grass Valley.

Mr. Peterson died Thursday, Feb. 5, in Penn Valley. He was 75.

He was born Nov. 3, 1928, in Portland, Ore., to Philip and Maebelle Peterson. He graduated from Sequoia High School and San Jose State College. He served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956, stationed in Stuttgart, Germany. He married Janet on Dec. 7, 1958, in Whittier. He worked for Varion Associates for 30 years in Palo, Alto, Concord, and Zug, Switzerland. He also owned The Tool Shed in Grass Valley for eight years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Lake Wildwood Mens Golf Group. He enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing, gardening, and camping.



He is survived by his wife, Janet Peterson, of Penn Valley; sons and daughters-in-law, Steve and Sue Peterson of Redwood City, Eric and Christine Peterson of Grass Valley, and Greg and Sherrie Peterson of Truckee; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents; and son David.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Foothills.




Arrangements are under the direction of Hooper and Weaver Mortuary.
