John Hoving

Memorial services for John Hoving of Grass Valley will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Hooper and Weaver Mortuary in Nevada City.

Mr. Hoving died Tuesday, Jan. 7, at Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital. He was 82.

He was born Nov. 8, 1921, in Santa Monica to William R. and Alice Wieroma Hoving He attended diesel school, and served in the U.S. Navy as a motor machinist’s mate first class. He married Evelyn Jean Hill on March 15, 1946.



He was a diesel mechanic, heavy equipment operator and machinist. He worked for Harry Warner as a ranch foreman for 32 years and continued employment as a ranch assistant until he died. He enjoyed woodcarving, model ship building, drawing and sketching.

He is survived by his daughters Jean Star and Teena Teehee, both of Marysville; sister, Margaret Smith; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 25 years, Evelyn Hoving.




Memorial contributions may be made in the name of John Hoving, c/o Hooper and Weaver Mortuary.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hooper and Weaver Mortuary.
