John Briggs

John A. Briggs died Aug. 27. He was 85.

Visitation will be from 7-9 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 1, at Chapel of the Angels Mortuary, 250 Race St. in Grass Valley. Prayer service is scheduled at 10 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 2, followed by Mass at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 115 Court St. in Jackson, Calif.

Mr. Briggs was born to Charles and Buelah Briggs on Jan. 7, 1925, in Charleston, SC. He was a World War II veteran with the U.S. Navy.



John married Frances in Oakland on July 8, 1951. Mr. Briggs was an installer with AT&T for 35 years. He enjoyed horticulture and fishing.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Frances; daughters, Deborah Roth of Hayward, Dena (Joe) Millard of Castro Valley, Denise Longbrake of San Leandro; sons, John Briggs of Sagle, Idaho, Peter Briggs of Vacaville, Charles Briggs of Oakland and Erik (Gina) Briggs of Clarksville, Tenn.; 19 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.




Mr. Briggs was preceded in death by three brothers, Charles, Janus and Lovett Briggs; son, James who died at birth; and daughter Donna Wright at 48 years.

He was a wonderful, loving husband and father who will be sorely missed.
