Jazz festival, Podruzhki back to dazzle county

The third annual Empire Mine Jazz Festival will be from noon to 4:30 p.m. on May 11 at the state park.

Performers include Paul Klempau and Ian Case, Sierra Gold Big Band, GV Jazz, Young Guns, Nevada Union High School’s jazz band and vocal jazz choir, and Union Hill School’s Bearcat Band.

The festival is a benefit for Union Hill’s music program.



Tickets are $6 in advance and $7 at the door for adults, $3 for children 6 and over, and free for children 5 and under. Call 268-7788 for more information.




Community Players of Nevada County brings the comedic “Charley’s Aunt” to City Centre Playhouse on May 10, 11, 17, 18, 24, 25 and 31 and June 1.

Show time is 8 p.m.

Admission is $15 general and $13 for seniors and children under 12. Tickets are at The Book Seller and City Centre Playhouse.

The playhouse is at 127-A Bank St., Grass Valley. Call 477-1107 for details.

Nevada County’s all-women’s Balkan choir, Podruzhki, will sing European folk music on May 10 at the Nevada City United Methodist Church.

Podruzhki’s set is at 7:30 p.m., followed by the Village Folk Orkestra playing East European dance music.

The church is at 433 Broad St.

Admission is by donation. Call 272-2149 for more information.
