Jay Parsons

Private services for Jay Parsons of Penn Valley will be conducted.

Mr. Parsons died Friday, Jan. 9, in Grass Valley. He was 90.

He was born June 14, 1913, in El Dorado, Kan., to J.B. and Ella (Miller) Parsons. He graduated from El Dorado High School and earned an Associates Degree in college. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, as a 2nd Lieutenant. He received the Distinguished Flying Cross, and the Silver and Bronze Star in the Pacific Theatre. He married Polly Burgess on Aug. 24, 1944, in Rapid City, S.D. He was a rancher and also raised racing quarter horses. He was a member of the American Quarter Horse Association, the Pacific Coast Quarter Horse Association, and the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks.

He is survived by his wife, Polly Parsons; daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Brian Hatley of El Paso, Texas; grandsons R.J. Parsons of San Jose and John Parsons of Fresno; granddaughter, Jennifer Hatley of Austin, Texas; granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Ashley and Drew Seldon of Scottsdale, Ariz.; sister, Kathryn Kunkle of El Dorado, Kan.; and niece, Pat Kunkle of Kansas City, Kan.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hooper and Weaver Mortuary.
