Janice Pool

Services for Janice Arlene Pool of Grass Valley will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Grace Lutheran Church in Grass Valley. Burial will be at Sierra Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Nevada City.

Mrs. Pool died Monday, Sept. 9, in at home. She was 82.

She was born July 3, 1920, in Burlington, Iowa, to Carl August and Esther Eleanor Schulze. She married Stanley Pool on March 2, 1942, in Los Angeles. She was a legal secretary and homemaker.



She was church organist at the Holy Shepherd Lutheran Church in Chatsworth. She was also a piano teacher. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and belonged to various organ clubs, the Matinee Players and the DisOrganizers. She enjoyed playing the piano and organ music and spending time with her family.

She is survived by her husband, Stanley Pool of Grass Valley; son and daughter-in-law, Dale and Jan Pool of Federal Way, Wash.; daughters and sons-in-law Judy and Mike Kitowski of Nevada City and Karen and Mike Railey of Grass Valley; sister Marilyn Thye of Tucson, Ariz.; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, son Chris Pool in 1998; sister, Linnea Maddux; and niece, Marla Thye, in 2002.




Memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of the Foothills or Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hooper and Weaver Mortuary.
