Jane Phillips

Jane Garwood Phillips, 73, of Nevada City died Sunday, Jan. 5, at a Grass Valley convalescent hospital.

In accordance with her wishes, there will be no services. Burial will be at Sierra Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Nevada City.

Mrs. Phillips was born on Aug. 30, 1929, in Columbus, Ohio, to Charles and Virginia (Lockett) Bowen. She was raised and attended school in Columbus, Ohio. She moved to northern California to attend college and then attended the University of Nevada, where she was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. She worked for the Nevada County Hospital for more than 10 years in the office. She married Roland Garwood and they resided in Nevada City. After his death, she married John Joseph Phillips.

She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Janet and Cam Taylor; brother Charles Bowen; and numerous nieces and nephews, all of Columbus, Ohio.

She is preceded in death by her husbands, Roland Garwood and John Joseph Phillips.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hooper and Weaver Mortuary.
