Jane Sawyer Carrington of Penn Valley died June 6 in Grass Valley. She was 87.

Private services will be held.

Mrs. Carrington was born July 16, 1920, in Evanston, Ill., to Arthur Sawyer and Sarah Litchfield Sawyer. She was married to Waring J. Carrington for 64 years. She was a homemaker and a member of Lake Wildwood Art Club and LWW Collectibles VII. She enjoyed painting and stained glass.

Mrs. Carrington loved people, especially her family and friends. She would do anything to help them or others. She always thought of others before herself. She loved meeting people of all ages.

Mrs. Carrington is survived by her husband, Waring C. Carrington of Penn Valley; daughter, Beverly C. Howell of Arvada, Colo.; son, Cal Carrington of Nevada City; sister and brother-in-law, Joann and Jack Hager of Nevada City; granddaughter, Sara Howell of Aurora, Colo.; grandson and wife, F. B. and Christine Howell of Tampa, Fla.; great-granddaughters Rachel and Lauren, and several nieces and nephews and their families.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur Sawyer and Sarah Litchfield, and brother, John C. Sawyer.

Memorial contributions may be made to Madelyn Helling County Library, 980 Helling Way in Nevada City.

Arrangements are under the direction of Chapel of the Angels Mortuary in Grass Valley.
